Which caused me to trip over this https://eliotakira.com/neko "Neko: History of a Software Pet" page.

Which included a repository of a bunch of historical versions. Including the original 90s #BeOS version which had introduced me to the net kitty.

Which caused me to wonder if the "replicat" app from BeOS could be made to build in #Haiku. (It can).

The actual replicant feature where the app window is embedded into the desktop isn't working quite right for some reason that escapes me at the moment. (Other replicants work fine on my system.) #HaikuOS

behold, my #haiku #haikuos panasonic let’s note. I call it Haikubook. I bought this little notebook that is not made anymore from my first salary here in #japan. It is not super powerful but been my workhorse for couple of years. Recently I sold/donated most of my useless modern hardware but kept this and made it my bare metal Haiku machine. It is surprising how well Haiku runs on it, incl. touchscreen and wifi card.

New rEFInd bootloader theme for my laptop! It boots straight to The Choice. The Matrix is my favorite film of all time, so...

Running Haiku OS on bare metal, on two different laptops: a Thinkpad x280 and a DELL 5480. Everything works perfectly except the touchpads/tracksticks (on the Thinkpad it crashes a lot but it works, on the DELL it doesn't work at all). With a mouse it works great.

Haiku has certainly come a long way!

Cosmoe brings the #haiku UI library to other Operating Systems! https://cosmoe.org/ (for now it's just Wayland) but i would love to see it running on macOS and Windows too
