UPDATE: Root Cause is that Apple got more sensitive in the answer of the captive portal and I have a firewall in between that adds some script into the answer.

Service notice: Do not update iPads to 18.4. After updating, my Wi-Fi stopped working. It tries to redirect me through a captive portal that doesn’t actually exist (it just shows “Success” directly from Apple).

This is the #Ipad Kensington Key Folio Pro K39357US.

This #Bluetooth chiclet #Keyboard is fantastic! It is sleek, responsive and feels modern. It also has a decent layout and doesn’t forget the right shift key like the previous Key Folio.

Once again it effortlessly connected to all of my iPaqs (111, 210, HX2495, HX2795b) and surprisingly also connected to my #Dell Axim X51V using Passkey 1234!

Next up is the #Ipad Kensington Key Folio K39294.

It’s a #Bluetooth 2.0 spill proof rubber covered #Keyboard that drove me crazy due to the right shift key being absent. LOL.

It’s connectivity was identical to the Freedom Pro. It easily connected to all of my iPaqs (111, 210, HX2495, HX2795b) and unfortunately refused to connect to any of my #Dell Axim X50 and X51 series.

Unfortunately after talking with people & reading up on the #Bluetooth protocol I learned that Bluetooth Classic (1, 2, & 3) is not compatible with the current Bluetooth LE (4, 5, etc.). I had no idea!

A new keyboard seemed doubtful and everyone I talked to suggested buying an old expensive #PocketPC or #PDA #Keyboard but then I got a great suggestion; get an old #Ipad keyboard.

Those are plentiful and cheap!

Well, the first version of my case for the old iPad 4 panel was okay-ish. But it didn't blow me away. So I created a new one.

This is the second iteration. And I think it looks really pretty. 😍

I don't think it will just be a display. I will probably install a Raspberry Pi so that it will be a complete computer.

I took a lot of inspiration for the designs from Hartmut Esslinger.

Is there *anything* I can do with an old #iPad Air?
It won't let me update the OS and with that I'm no longer able to install any apps. Or at least most apps. I think I'm stuck with iOS 12?
I'm not looking for much, just a basic tablet experience where my kids can watch a video every once in a while.
I can run YouTube in Safari, but it's a miserable and slow experience.
Any ideas?

One thing Apple can do to make the iPad seem more powerful is to make apps look and feel more like their full #Mac/Desktop counterparts.

The Remote app on #iPad actually looked like a mini version of iTunes 11 & even the Music app itself at one point looked like a mini #iTunes/GarageBand mashup; complete with a toolbar, LCD display, sidebar, & bottom bar. It was glorious.

Just look at how these were so, so beautiful and fit perfectly on iPad.

This wouldn't work with modern iPad multitasking.
