Does anyone know, how I get the useful output from

system_profiler SPUSBDataType

with MacOS 26?

I already tried "sudo", but as root user it still does not produce any output.

#macos #usb

The output looked like this:

Just like last time, one lucky winner will receive a »Steam key of Hollow Knight: Silksong« on Sunday, October 12th.

Good luck to everyone!

My little #tui audio player for #macos silicon called #tunerider reached v0.3 today.

Still macos only but now it correctly shows all the metadata of files while pressing TAB and pauses/resumes playback with SPACEBAR and also renders correctly regardless if terminal is in dark or light mode with background vs foreground colors.

Final testing later today and it will go to 20-4-BEERS and Absinthe BBS for distribution.

#oftenhide production, #demoscene forever

It’s small code, standalone bunary under 600kB, and strong Cubic Player vibes. Gotta love it, I’ll keep ya updated when released

Liebe Folglinge,

Help, I need a code signing certificate that won't bankrupt me.

Three years ago, I paid $100 for a three-year code signing certificate. I've signed all my open-source projects' releases with it. Now that it's renewal time, Certera (SignMyCode.com) wants almost $700 for the same three-year certificate (excluding the mandatory HSM purchase, which I am totally on board with).

I write silly C and PowerShell code, and I timestamp my signatures so that they're perpetually valid. My PowerShell Gallery stuff, as well as binaries of aprs-weather-submit on Windows and macOS, are all signed and hashed (but not notarized by Apple, because that's another $99 a year for something that feels done unless Bob Bruninga's followers are thinking about APRS 2.0).

If I can't find a solution, anything I write or update in the future will have to be released as unsigned unless I half-ass something (like the Notepad++ developer using self-signed certs -- semi-dangerously clever). $100 every three years, fine. $700 every three years, and I'll do it if my three fans click my Buy Me A Coffee link over and over.

Is there any CA out there that will offer open-source, not-for-profit developers like me a chance to get globally-trusted code signing certificates? I don't think SigStore ever took off (sadly), and even if it did, I don't think it's part of the Microsoft Authenticode program.

Benjamin Button reviews macOS

Apple's first desktop operating system was Tahoe. Like any first version, it had a lot of issues. Users and critics flooded the web with negative reviews. While mostly stable under the hood, the outer shell — the visual user interface — was jarringly bad. Without much experience in desktop UX, Apple's first OS looked like a Fisher-Price toy: heavily rounded corners, mismatched c

Apparently #macOS 26 has a bug that leads to massive CPU usage and lagginess in apps until you terminate and restart them. The lagginess creeps in over time, until the affected app is restarted again.

github.com/zed-industries/zed/

I ran into this with #iTerm2 but the issue has been reported already months ago in macOS betas with various apps.

Workaround is to: defaults write -g NSAutoFillHeuristicControllerEnabled -bool false

You will lose some autofill functionality by doing this, but apps slowing down over time is quite annoying, too.

#Apple quality control leaves things to be desired yet again.

I'm still aghast at the #MacOS #Tahoe screenshots I saw today.

I have never in my life seen an art devolve as rapidly and violently as #UIDesign.

It's as if in a single generation, every musician just started smashing their instruments with hammers and recording the sound as their next album, and every painter started just smearing their feces onto canvas and selling it as art.

What the hell happened here?!?

I just discovered that the #macOS #TextEdit app has an interesting feature: it can do math!

For example, if you type the expression “640*480=” then it will autocomplete “307,200”.

I wonder if any other #editor s have this feature?

#KDE 's #Kate does not have this feature, but #KDEPlasma does have something similar: you can type “640*480” into #KRunner (Alt+F2) and press Shift+Enter to copy the answer into the clipboard. Then you can paste it into your document.

Neat!

With the release of #macOS 26 (Tahoe) last week, we'd like to hear from the community about any issues you've found. Qt has not implemented the Glass UI style yet, so PCSX2's UI will not line up with the system theme. Our main concerns right now are the responsiveness and stability of the UI and the ability to play games. #retrogaming #emulation

2 days ago I highlighed my switch to an operating system released in 2013 — Mac OS X 10.9.5 "Mavericks" — running on a 12-year old computer.

I couldn't possibly explain all the fine details of how it works, but I have tried to dig out the best impressions.

It's been almost two months, and it's going great so far. However people can deem this experiment silly or odd, the past is a soothing place for me now, at least in terms of tech.
