The court's 6-3 #conservative majority includes 3 justices appointed by #Trump during his first term in office.

Its most recent #ShadowDocket ruling came on Monday when #SCOTUS again backed Trump's hardline #immigration approach, letting federal agents proceed with raids in #SoCal targeting people for #deportation based on their #race or #language - a ruling that the liberal justices said makes #Latinos "fair game to be seized at any time."

Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" is a bona fide smash — it made $48 million in the U.S. in its first weekend, then had a mere 6% decline in its second. Critics adore it too. So why have outlets from The New York Times to Variety been equivocating over its success? Um, racism? "The film industry always acts like hit pictures from people of color are anomalies, preferring to stubbornly hedge their bets on franchise fare that’ll land those precious four quadrants [male and female, under and over 25]," writes @AVClub's Craig D. Lindsay. "But, as African-American auteurs like Coogler and Jordan Peele have shown, non-IP popcorn films starring people of various shades will attract many people of many shades at the box office — and these young Blerds are making the powerful white people look bad!"

“Mississippi, a state known for its rich culture and strong heritage, also faces some of the nation’s most glaring health disparities. Among them is the inequity in cervical-cancer prevention and treatment, which is often shaped by racism and systemic discrimination in health care,” writes Barbara Rose Brooks for @msfreepress. The solutions: Investments in community health clinics and cultural competency training, which would allow all Mississippians equal access to preventative health care.

In an editorial for @msfreepress, Kiden-Aloyse Smith discusses “Hood Feminism” by Mikki Kendall, and why its messaging around race and intersectionality is particularly resonant right now. “Despite Black folks making up 14% of the U.S. population, we make up 40% of missing-person cases for people under age 18,” she writes. “Black women’s and children’s cases are left untouched for decades — marked as runaways, marked as unworthy, marked as the ‘imperfect victim.’ When little Black girls go missing, it’s a deafening silence with a reminder that maybe if we were ‘good’ girls or white girls, we’d be found.”

"US prosecutors unveiled criminal charges on Monday against two alleged leaders of a white supremacist gang, accusing them of soliciting attacks on #Black, #Jewish, #LGBTQ people and immigrants in hopes of inciting a #race war...

The group's targets also included U.S. government officials and critical infrastructure sites, with an overall goal of causing societal collapse in the US" reuters.com/world/us/us-charge.
